Translations
This has nothing to do with Brian Friel's play of the same name.
I just noticed yesterday that I talk to myself, at great length, when I translate texts. This is embarrassing. Must remember not to do that in libraries.
And why? I don't chatter on when I'm doing other types of work. It's like the Medieval and Anglo-Saxon parts of my brain are situated somewhere outside my head, and I have to establish dialogue to use the informations therein. My floating languages brain. Strange.

The other day I read an article about how people always used to read/mumble aloud (I mean even if they didn't actually want to read to anyone, but when they were just reading to themselves); reading silently only really started with the rise of bourgeois culture around the 17th/18th century.
More embarrassing: Another other day I was told I talk in my sleep in a really clear way (I always thought I just mumbled something no one was able to understand anyway). Ooops. Maybe some Anglo-Saxon bits are less of a problem to share with others than the dark depths of my subconscious ;-).
